Back in the saddle

I haven't updated this blog in a long time, obviously, and there are a few reasons that I'm doing so now. The first is that I found my blog as a link on somebody else's website and felt guilty about not keeping it updated and thus a worthwhile source for any information. The other reason is I simply need a tool to keep my hobby current for myself so I'm going to try to write more frequently, if only for myself.Today I did a few things to keep my killies well. First, however a list of what I am keeping. I have a pair of Rivulus xiphidius FBS 95/2 that I got from Gary Greenwood and a pair of Fundulopanchax kribianus (fallax?) ADK (have to look up the collection code, these are F2 fish from eggs I originally purchased on aquabid from Fanouch). I have a few single killies, a female N. fuscotaeniatus (lost its mate today) a female P. playfairi, and a male C. bitaeniatum Lagos red.Going back to what I did today. I finally added sphagnum (peat) to the Rivulus xiphidius tank. I have a pair in there that I've had for a year and a half with no fry, so here goes. I also added a floating mop. I tried to find an article on spawing R. xiphidius, only found one and not the one I was looking for. The one that I am looking for references the moss that both the author and I got from Gary G. I also noticed the N. fuscotaeniatus male was dead. I really didn't do anything with those fish, but I did collect some peat that should be ready around the new year. I have a bag of N. luekei eggs that I got from Kiril (aquabid) that I am looking forward to raising. I checked the eggs under a stereoscope and no eyes, so I'm going to keep waiting until I do (see eyes) to wet the peat. That's all for now, hopefully I will find some Riv. xiph. fry soon.

A picture for picture's sake

This is for Gina, who doesn't like to read blogs without pictures, and who also doesn't keep killifish. Lamprichthys tanganicanus, this is a wild caught specimen brought in last year via Mirelle Brichard, and photo taken by Stan Sung. Unfortunately none of them made it very long, but we did get one great picture.

Southern California Fish Fry

I've added a few links to this blog here. You can check out pictures of the Southern California Killifish Club's annual Fish Fry at Ron Harlan's place www.socalkilliclub.com. Ron is an awesome host and this year there were a ton of people. Fish highlights were the readily available Fp. avichang provided by Thuan Nguyen (BAKA) and the pupfish from Russ Feilzer (SCKC). Thank you Mike Mills for maintaining the SCKC website. What did I come home with? No fish! I'm really kicking myself for not bringing home the quartet (3M, 1F) Rivulus xiphidius (T. Nguyen).

Before I go any further I need to thank Stan Sung for many if not all of the great photographs you'll see here. This is one of my favorites. The fish is Parotocinclus sp. 3 (Planetcatfish.com ID). This fish came in last spring from Peru. Thank you Stan.

Hey all, so here's my first worthwhile post. Today, I collected 124 eggs of Aphyosemion striatum G 00/26. If anybody can better identify this code I'd really appreciate it, there is no good record of it anywhere. Here's the fish.
